World War 11 Casualties
Perger Frederick James Born 10th August 1921 St Mary’s Tasmania to Garnet Alfred and Mary Ann Perger he was an Able Seaman on board HMAS Sydney which was lost following a battle with the German raider HSK Kormoran in the Indian Ocean off the West Australian coast. The loss of the Sydney with its full war complement of 645 remains Australia’s worst naval disaster.
