EIGHT SONS IN THE AI F

PTE T. G. SMITH

MRS M. SMITH, of York St., Sandy Bay who is the mother of eight boys serving in the AIF in this war has received word that two of her sons who were prisoners of war in Japanese hands were on the transport which was sunk last June.

One son, L-Cpl E. T. Smith, was rescued and is now at Fukuoka camp in Japan, but the other son, Pte T. G. Smith, is believed by the authorities to have lost his life.

Mrs Smith has had six other sons in the AIF besides the youngest, Neil, who is medically unfit for service. R. T. Smith, who recently was discharged from the AIF because of ill-health, is now in the Commonwealth Police Force.

The five others, who are still serving with the AIF, are: Dvr J. S. Smith. Cpl H. ("Chum") Smith, Pte J. T. Smith. Ptes E. L. and S. C. Smith. All the sons volunteered for service and two have been in the AIF since the war began.  Pte T. G. Smith, who was lost on the Japanese transport, is the first of the sons reported missing, believed
