MEMORIAL TO LORD MAYOR'S SON UNVEILED A memorial to WO John Trevor Soundy (RAAF), elder son of the Lord Mayor (Mr Soundy) and the Lady Mayoress (Mrs Soundy), was unveiled at the Hobart Baptist Church last night by the Governor "(Sir Hugh Binney). WO Soundy, who joined the RAAF in 1940, was reported missing on Jan.7, 1943, when serving as copilot with a US air crew in operations north of Australia. The Governor was attended by Capt Gold, ADC, and was accompanied by Lady Binney and Miss Paul (private secretary). Mr and Mrs Soundy and members of their family circle were in the large congregation which included the Deputy .Lord Mayor (Ald Cuthbertson) and aldermen of the City Council, the town clerk (Mr Cole), representa- tives of the services and of schools and associations with which WO Soundy was linked. "He Jived well and died bravely," said the minister of the church (the Rev E. Roberts-Thomson) at the conclusion of a memorial sermon, stressing the call to deeper service made by those who nobly laid down,their lives. The Last Post was sounded and special congregational singing was led by the church choir under Mr F. W. Pone, with Miss Constance Marsh as organist. . Scripture was read by the president of the Air Force Association (Mr L. H. Williams) and Sq-Ldr A. Doyle. A solo was sung by Mrs S. C. Burbury. The Mercury 29 Apr 1946
