Stephens Albert Arthur
Born 3rd December 1915 Sheffield Tasmania to William Charles and Edith Rose Stephens (nee Powell) he was a labourer living at Kentish when he enlisted in the AIFAnd was posted to the 2/40th Battalion. He was a prisoner of war and was taken on board the “Tamahoko Maru” which was transporting POW’s to work in the factories in Japan when, close to Japan, she exploded after being torpedoed by the US submarine USS Tang. Of the 267 Australian POW’s on board only 72 survived.
