Stirling John
Informal outdoor portrait of TX2125 Captain (Capt) John Stirling, 2/40 Battalion, with his daughter Jean. He enlisted from Hobart, Tas on 25 July 1940. The son of John Ferguson Stirling and Mary Stirling and husband of Kathleen, John Stirling was born in Dundee, Scotland. He emigrated to Australia before the Second World War and worked as an architect in Hobart. Capt Stirling was executed in Timor on 15 May 1942, aged 34. He is buried at Ambon War Cemetery, Indonesia.
