World War 11 Casualties

If you could spare a few dollars to help with the running costs of this website would be very much appreciated.

Thank you from Gravesites of Tasmania.

Walker Cecil Gloucester

Walrus 2271 of 278 Squadron RAF took off from RAF Thornley Island Emsworth on the morning of 6th March 1945 to search for a pilot reported baled out.  On reaching the search area the pilot reported he was going down to search.  Nothing more was heard until a spitfire pilot reported he had seen a Walrus dive straight into the sea.  Two other aircraft were immediately despatched to the scene but no survivors were to be seen.

It was later recorded that all three on board including Flt Lt Walker had lost their lives at sea.

He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, United Kingdom
