Late Sgt.-Pilot Ward

Sgt.-Pilot F. D. Ward, R.A.A.F., who was killed as a result of an air accident overseas and was a son of Mr. and Mrs F. E. Ward of Sandy Bay, was educated at the Hutchins School, where he was one of the most prominent athletes in public school sport. He won the championship of the school in his final year and the half-mile at the public schools' championship meeting. He stroked the senior school crew about six years ago, and after leaving school played with Hutchins Old Boys and Cananore. He was on the laboratory staff of the Electrolytic Zinc Co., and completed his assay diploma before enlisting in the R.A.A.F. about a year I ago.
