William Wells Smith was born 7th January 1810 St. Lawrence Foleshill, Warwickshire England to Wells Smith and Jane Perry.

He was a ribbon weaver when he was caught poaching and found guilty and sentenced to 14 years transportation.

On the 20th April 1835 he married Rosanna Douglas at St. David’s Cathedral Hobart and had three children by her.

William Henry Smith (alias Swanky Smith) married Elizabeth Campbell Lord daughter of the Hon. John Lord MLC.  His occupation is listed as “Town Clerk of Hobart”

Mary Anne Smith who married Joseph Smith a free settler from Grimsby , England .

William Wells Smith died 15th. February 1868 and is buried at St. Georges, Battery Point.
