"Edward Fisher arrived at Port Jackson in August 1791 on the convict ship Matilda [which was part of the Third Fleet]. He had appeared before the Oxford Assizes [in Stafford] on 30 July 1788 with four others for stealing two hempen sacks, value three shillings, and 275 lb of hops, value 20 pounds, belonging to Hugh Evans of the parish of Sedgeley, Staffordshire, England. He had given the goods to John Whitehouse, a licensed victualler, and was found guilty and sentenced to seven years' transportation. Edward was sent to Norfolk Island [aboard the Mary Ann], where ten years later he married Elizabeth Gregory on 26 July 1801.
Elizabeth was born in England and came to New South Wales when only ten years old with her mother, Sarah Gregory, a convict on the Lady Juliana with the Second Fleet. Elizabeth's father, Thomas Gregory, also arrived with the Second Fleet on the Neptune and the family were sent to Norfolk Island on the Suprise. Sarah gregory died just before the family left the island in 1807.
Edward and Elizabeth Fisher had five children born to them on Norfolk Island and three more in Van Diemen's Land on the 85-acre farm at Sandy Bay, where today Fisher Avenue is named after the family. [Other sources also have the couple having a child Joseph on Norfolk Island who also died there[4]].
Edward received an additional grant of 200 acres at Oatlands in 1824 along with his sons Thomas, Edward and John who received 100 acres each. When Edward Snr died in 1838, he left his Sandy Bay farm to his wife Elizabeth and upon her death to be divided up for his family, naming his sons and daughters and their husbands."

General Notes: John Fisher married Charlotte Herbert, the daughter of John Herbert (qv) and he built "Wellington Grange" in Macquarie St. Hobart. This house was later the Homeopathic Hospital, which opened on the 26 September 1899 and the first annual report showed, 121 patients were admitted. By 1930 it was taken over by St. John's Hospital and during the years has expanded to it's present size.

I have the following note from a history I did of the building which now
houses the Nursing Board of Tasmania.
John Fisher was a builder and so he is most likely to have built the houses
at 151 and 153 Davey St prior to subdividing the land and selling 153 Davey
St to John Mainwairing Dixon in 1851 and 151 Davey St to William Dawson in
1853. It is likely that John Fisher built the house at 153 Davey St, sold
it, then built the house at 151 Davey St using the same plans. In 1847,
John Fisher owned fourteen houses in Davey St, plus houses in Fitzroy Place,
Fitzroy Crescent, Antill St and Patrick St, Hobart.
John Fisher was the son of 3rd fleet convict, Edward Fisher (transported per
Matilda) and Elizabeth Gregory, the daughter of 2nd fleet convicts, Thomas
Gregory (transported per Neptune) and Sarah Clay (transported per Lady
Juliana).
It appeared to me that John Fisher was what we would nowadays call a 'spec'
builder.

General Notes: William Fisher was a Whaler and owned the whaling brig. "Calypso". In 1855 he was in trouble with the Customs Dept. when after the "Calypso's" departure, the Custom Officer learned she had 150 gallons of spirits and 900 pound of tobacco on board, which they seized, along with the ship's papers until a satisfactory explanation was given. The "Calypso" finally sailed for the whaling grounds. William Fisher went to the gold diggings in the early 1850s for a short period. Lucy died in 1857 and William married again by 1866. He owned property in Hobart but lived at Recherche Bay in the far south of Tasmania in his later years, where he died in 1893, aged 80 years.

Edwin John was born at 'Strathbarton' but lived out his 72 years at 'Parki' which is still in possession of the Webb family.
St Bartholomews Church. In 1910 Harriet and Russell Ibbot who later bought 'Strathbarton' gave land on which to build a church and consecrate a cemetery. St. Bartholomews opened on the 24 August 1910. Several memorial windows and endowments were made by families including an "altar cover" given by the Webb family in honour of parents Edwin and Florence Webb.

487. Barbara Sally Watkins was born 24th Apr 1935 in Apsley "Parki" and died on 10 Oct 2002 in Royal Hobart Hospital at age 67. The cause of her death was Community Aquired Pneumonia.
General Notes:
Was born at 7.30am in the front room at "Parki" at Apsley. She was a breach baby.
She taught at Bothwell Primary.Kempton Primary and Brighton Army camp Pre School.
The Pre School then moved to Brighton Primary.
Barbara's first year out of teachers college she taught at Bothwell in 1956. This was the year that one of her students was shot in the play ground. The little girl was Frances Mann.
Barbara wanted a private funeral so there was a small gathering at the Millingtons Crematorium at Mornington.
The service was conducted by X News reader Tom Payne.
Her ashes are to be thrown over "Parki" at Apsley where she was born.
Her three daughters granted her wish and had half at "Parki" and the other half with her husband John at St Marks at Pontville.
Medical Notes: Rhumatoid arthritis at the age of 47 Was in a car accident in 1993 recieved a broken left leg and had a 12 inch plate in her leg.
Had an over active Thyroid problem and had nuclear treatment in 1996.
The children were not allowed near her for at least a week.
She contracted enphyzemia in 1997.
